Loan Tape

In one sentence

A structured data file summarizing the key terms and performance of a loan or a portfolio of loans, used in sales, servicing, and reporting.

The longer version

A loan tape, historically a spreadsheet, captures the essential fields of each loan: balance, rate, maturity, collateral, and performance. It is how loans are analyzed in bulk for sales, securitizations, and portfolio reporting.

The accuracy of a loan tape depends on the accuracy of boarding and the underlying file, which is why clean loan records matter well beyond a single closing.
